Gary Paulsen
As a writer, Gary Paulsen has a "desire to tap deeply into
the human spirit and to encourage readers to observe and
care about the world around them." Three of his novels, Hatchet,
Dogsong, and The Winter Room were Newbery Honor books.

E.L. Konigsburg
E.L. Konigsburg has written more than 15 books, two of which have won Newbery Awards. She enjoys writing about the experiences of her children and former students. A number of her books are illustrated with her own drawings. The 5th grade teachers especially enjoy The View From Saturday and From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankelweiler.

Karen Hesse
From the time she was ten years old, Karen Hesse thought of herself as "good with words." She has had many different jobs, but she loves writing for young readers. Her book, Out of the Dust, was awarded the Newbery Medal for 1998.
