| The primary mission of an elementary school is to foster a love of reading in children. Toward this end, our goal at Lakeville is to help children gain mastery of the five building blocks of literacy development: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Each of these literacy components contributes to a readers’ understanding of text. Parental involvement is key to ensuring children’s reading success. I am, therefore, providing you with a monthly newsletter entitled, Reading Connection, which will provide you with tips, strategies and activities for working with your child at home.
