Teacher involvement is an essential component of curriculum development and review. Each school establishes a Building Curriculum Group (BCG) to review, discuss and recommend curricular innovations and proposals. BCGs include at least one building administrator and groups of teachers who are elected by their colleagues. BCGs are led by a chairperson or chairpersons and meet on a regular basis. Some of the common tasks performed by BCGs include review of new course proposals, requests to attend educational conferences, and discussion of the overall school curriculum. An important task of the BCG is to report to the faculty on a regular basis about curriculum changes and innovations.
