District Welcomes Dr. Kenneth Davidow

In early February, the Great Neck Public Schools welcomed Dr. Kenneth Davidow as supervisor of special education. He will work closely with Dr. Joseph Hickey, assistant superintendent for special education and pupil services. He comes to the district with strong leadership skills and more than 20 years experience in the field of special education.

Before coming to Great Neck, Dr. Davidow served as coordinator for allied services for Nassau County BOCES (Board of Cooperative Education Services). There, he supervised a staff of psychologists and social workers assigned to more than 25 schools serving kindergarten through twelfth grade. He was also responsible for observation and evaluation, and for monitoring compliance of New York State special education regulations and their implementation.

Prior to BOCES, Dr. Davidow was administrator of secondary special education for the Brewster Central School District in Putnam County, NY. He was responsible for observing and evaluating middle and high school special education teachers, and training them in special education procedures and services. He conducted Committee on Special Education and hundreds of related special education meetings to ensure that students with disabilities received appropriate placements. He also participated in weekly student support-team meetings.

Dr. Davidow is a certified school psychologist and served in that capacity early in his career in the Hendrick Hudson, Tuckahoe, and Greenburgh School Districts in New York.

Dr. Davidow explained that he wanted to work in the Great Neck Public Schools since "Great Neck has a reputation for being a progressive school district that challenges students and provides them with the varied opportunities and supports they need to succeed." He looks forward to working in an environment that fosters these goals and utilizes school resources to effectively meet student needs.

During his leisure time, Dr. Davidow enjoys the performing arts including movies, plays, and concerts, and tries to spend as much time as possible with his three sons, each at different points in their college careers.

Dr. Davidow holds a Certificate in Advanced Study Educational Administration from SUNY New Paltz. He received his Doctorate in Psychology from Yeshiva University, Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology; a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University, School of Social Work; and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
