Standardized Test Information

The ACT is a college entrance exam.  The test consists of multiple choice questions in four areas: English, math, reading, and science. It is scored based on the number of questions answered correctly.  There is no penalty for guessing.

The SAT is a college entrance exam.  The SAT measures the critical thinking skills that demonstrate how well you analyze and solve problems.  The test is composed of three sections: critical reading, mathematics, and writing.  All multiple choice questions are scored the same way; one point for each correct answer, and one quarter point subtracted for a wrong answer. No points are subtracted for answers left blank.

SAT/ACT Conversion Chart - The ACT and College Board have completed a concordance study that is desgigned to examine the relationship between two scores on the ACT and SAT.  These concordance tables do not equate scores, but rather provide a tool for finding comparable scores.

The SAT Subject Tests are one hour multiple choice tests, which measure how much you know about a particular academic subject and how well you can apply that knowledge.  The subject tests fall into five academic areas: English, history, mathematics, sciences, and languages.  Most colleges do not require students take SAT Subject Tests.  Some of the more competitive colleges do require two or more.  It is the recommendation of the guidance department that students in honors and AP classes consider taking SAT Subject Tests.
