Only twelve ensembles from the tri-state area were selected to perform this year in the "Young Musicians Concert". Three of these groups come from Great Neck South High School. No other school produced three winning ensembles. The Great Neck South High chamber groups selected will perform the Brahms Sonata No. 3, 4th Movement: Presto agitato; Duo Concertant No. 3 in D major, Op. 57 by Charles de Beriot and the Trio for Piano, Oboe and Bassoon, Movt. IV, Finale by Jean Francaix at Merkin Concert Hall for the twenty-seventh annual Young Musicians Concert on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM.

2011 Grammy Signature School Finalist

It gives me great pleasure to announce that for the eighth year in a row, William A. Shine - Great Neck South High School Music Department (2007, 2005 & 2003 Grammy Signature School) has been named a 2011 GRAMMY Signature School FINALIST by the Grammy Foundation. This ranks the Great Neck South High School music department among the top 140 scoring music programs in the nation. Out of the top 140 schools, 22 schools come from New York, 11 from Long Island (5 Nassau and 6 Suffolk County).

 

The William A. Shine - Great Neck South High School Performing Arts Department was selected as one of only 22 programs nation wide to be recognized by the Grammy Foundation as a Grammy Signature School recipient in 2007. Great Neck South High School was the only school selected from the state of New York, and one of only three schools selected from the entire East coast.
