Community News

The Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) is an important piece of legislation that went into effect on July 1, 2012.

  • Another successful School Spirit Week is in the books!!  Although the festivities have ended, we will be collecting non perishable food, loose change, and Box Tops for Education until this Wednesday (4/25)
  • South Middle won the Long Island Regional Middle School Science Bowl at Brookhaven National Laboratory

Teams faced off in a fast-paced question-and-answer format, being tested on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and math.

The team is coached by Dr. Doris Stanick,  and Ms. Diane Caplain.

The team has earned an invitation to compete at the National Competition hosted by the Department of Energy in Washington D.C. in late April, where they will face-off against the top teams in the nation!

  • Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience.
