The philosophy of the South Middle School computer program is to provide updated technology tools in computer centers and in classrooms to support the teaching and learning process across the curriculum. A Secondary Computer Curriculum Framework includes standards that must be achieved before students move up to the high school level. Computers skills such as word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphing, keyboarding, Internet research, computer graphics, image editing, multimedia presentations, and problem solving are taught in various grades and subject areas. Students and teachers use computers, laptops, printers, scanners, digital cameras, digital camcorders, Infocus projectors,VHS/DVD Combo Players, video presenters, video on demand, and Smartboards to facilitate classroom learning.
An important component of our program is to offer students the opportunity to receive more in-depth instruction in particular computer applications through our computer elective program. The computer electives we currently offer include:
- Digital Video
- Multimedia
- Programming
- Publishing and the Web
- Computer Keyboarding
