
South Middle School’s comprehensive 6 -8 Health Education Curriculum is designed to assist each student to achieve total physical, emotional, mental and social wellness. The program provides the knowledge and skills needed to make responsible decisions that our students face each day. It encourages students to take responsibility for their own actions and to establish positive health practices that will provide lifelong wellness. This program carefully follows the National Health Education Standards which are as follows:
- Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid health information and health-promoting products and services.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and reduce health risks.
- Students will analyze the influence of culture, media, technology and other factors on health.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting and decision-making skills to enhance health.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family and community health.
