The Catalog
From Home
| From School
The library's online catalog can be accessed directly from the web. Once connected, using the catalog is the same as if you were standing in the library at South Middle School. This feature will come in handy when completing work on a project and need the bibliographic information. You may also begin searching and locating material, thus saving some time when you are actually in school.

World Book Online
World Book Online Reference Center includes the World Book Encyclopedia, but that's just the beginning of what the "reference center" provides. Features include an atlas, student and teacher resources, Behind the Headlines, and a special Surf the Ages section where students can read websites from ancient, medieval, or modern historical times.

Grolier Online
Grolier Online includes Encyclopedia Americana Online, Grolier Multimedia

Encyclopedia Online, and The New Book of Knowledge Online with NBK News (focusing on news stories.)

Grolier Lands and Peoples is a special-subject encyclopedia focusing on countries and cultures, providing maps, flags, photos, articles, and more. Political situations and statistics in this subject area change quickly, but the online database is kept up-to-date.

Grolier New Book of Popular Science Online includes over 400 articles on current science and technology, as well as special features such as Scizone, Ask Pop Sci, Skywatch, Newbytes, and Careers.

Great Neck Public Library
In addition to our resources, don't forget that the Great Neck Public Library is available to the residents of the district. This site allows you to access many databases with the use of your library card number.

Relevancy Is the information relevant to the question at hand? Am I on the right track?
Appropriateness Is the information suitable to my age and core values?
Detail How much information do I need? Is the depth of coverage adequate?
Currency When was the information published or last updated?
Authority Who is the author of the information? What are his or her qualifications?
Bias Why was this information written? Was it written to inform me, persuade me, entertain me, or sell me something?
