Freshmen Ensembles at North High--May 9

North High School Freshmen Ensembles will perform on Tuesday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m., at the school, 35 Polo Rd. The Freshman Singers will include: Leeor Elias, Daisy Korman, Carla Moraly, Emilia Pedersen, Justin Shoda, Eitan Tavari, and Romeo Urbano. They will perform a medley from Phantom of the Opera, and a selection of popular songs including Sia's "Titanium," and Adam Lambert's "Never Close Our Eyes." North High vocal teacher is Dr. Janine Robinson. Instrumental groups will perform five pieces during the evening concert. A piece by Haydn will be performed by Jeremy Bernstein (cello), Esther Hwang (viola), and Adam Tsou and Daniel Zeng (violins). Judah Nouriyelian (cello), Christopher Matos Suero (viola), Mark Xu (viola), and Matthew Xu (violin) will perform a piece by Handel. A Mozart flute quartet will consist of: Kelly Chau, Olivia Liu, Madeline Yang, and Yushan Zhang. Piano soloist Vera Cho will play a Chopin Barcarolle. The saxophone duet of Netta Mualem and Kaiming Zhang will perform a piece by Mozart. Jazz Trumpeter Emma Sassouni will play "My Funny Valentine," by Richard Rodgers. North High instrumental teacher is Joseph Rutkowski.


Walk-a-Thon To Honor Retiring Principal--May 21

John L. Miller-Great Neck North High School Principal Bernard Kaplan will be retiring in August after serving as the school's principal for 24 years. To honor Mr. Kaplan, the school's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is hosting a 3K Walk-a-Thon, on Sunday, May 21, rain or shine. The event will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a charity with great meaning for Mr. Kaplan, as his grandson is affected by the disease. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., Mr. Kaplan will speak at 9:30 a.m., and the event will begin promptly at 10 a.m. The Walk will begin and end at North High School. The registration fee is $20 per person and includes a tee shirt. Non-walking registrants will also receive a tee shirt. The PTO is offering four levels of sponsorship: Freshman, $250 (includes two registrations and tee shirts); Sophomore, $500 (includes four registrations and tee shirts); Junior, $750 (includes six registrations and tee shirts); and Senior, $1,000 (includes eight registrations and tee shirts).
