In kindergarten, the students begin to develop an awareness of themselves and the world around them. The kindergarten social studies program focuses on learning about the students' immediate world. Themes such as "Myself and Others", "My School and School Community", "My Neighborhood", and "The World Around Us" are addressed.
Throughout the year the classes discuss various cultures and their celebrations. Time is also spent learning about famous Americans, the environment, and map skills. Emphasis is placed on topics that help children learn about respect and tolerance for others.
