Fourth Grade Curriculum Highlights
The following is a list of some of the scientific concepts that will be covered during fourth grade:
1. Earth's Processes:Fourth grade geologists will engage in a study of the contents of soil and rock. Students will investigate and observe the impact of weathering, erosion, and deposition on the ever changing surface of Earth. Our young scientists will engage in activities that will help them to use their knowledge of destructive forces (earthquakes, floods, etc...)to create a system to reduce the impact of these forces on human life.
2. Plants and Animals: Structures and Processes:
Fourth grade students will learn that plants animals have internal and external body structures that help them with survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction. Students will learn that animals receive information(stimuli) through their senses, process that information in the brain, and respond to that information in different ways.
3.Energy and Waves:
Fourth grade scientists will make observations and learn that energy can be transfered to different places by sound, light, heat, and electric currents. Our scientists will learn how light energy and sound energy travel in waves. Students will describe patterns of waves in terms of amplitude and wavelength and how waves cause motion.
