Office of Instructional Technology - Google Workspace

  • The Great Neck Public Schools 1:1 iPad Initiative standardizes on a variety of cross-curricular educational apps, Internet resources, and online databases to make it easier for students, staff, and parents to use our technology and support instruction, learning, professional development and strategies that deepen technology integration. At the core of these resources is our adoption of the G Suite (Google Apps for Education) productivity and collaboration solution and the Google Classroom learning management system for students and teachers in Grades 3-12.

G Suite provides numerous tools for content creation include Google Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, Calendar, and Gmail (for high school students only). With unlimited storage, revision histories, and the ability to collaborate on documents both synchronously and asynchronously, G Suite is a powerful solution for elementary and secondary school students and teachers.

Google Classroom provides a solution for extending classes online and beyond the four walls of the classroom. Teachers create Google Classrooms for each of their course sections and invite students to join the virtual classroom. In this online environment, students and teachers engage in a digital workflow which enables the class to have online discussions. Assignments can be digitally copied, distributed, completed, submitted, and graded through Google Classroom. Teachers can post links to presentations, websites, screencasts, and videos, flipping the classroom to provide remote instruction. Teachers can also turn on Guardian Summaries, which enable parents to receive daily or weekly updates of assignments and missed work.
