Meet the Principal

  • Dr. Gerald Cozine is Principal of Richard S. Sherman North Middle School.

  • Dr. Cozine is proud to say that he has been in middle school for the last 30+ years!!  He began his career as a seventh grade English teacher in the Massapequa Schools before taking over as Dean of Students at the Ames Ninth-Grade Campus of Massapequa High School.
     
    Prior to his taking over as Principal at North Middle School in 2015, Dr. Cozine served as assistant principal at Great Neck South Middle School for eight great years.  He was assistant principal of the Grand Avenue Middle School (grades 7–8) in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, a position he held for four years. From 1999–2003, Dr. Cozine held the positions of Dean of Students and Attendance Officer/Assistant Dean at the Ames Campus of Massapequa High School.
     
    Dr. Cozine recently received his doctorate in Educational and Policy Leadership from Hofstra University. He received a Master of Science in School Administration and Supervision from the College of New Rochelle and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Hamilton College.
     
    When not tending to his NMS Family, Dr. Cozine spends time with his own family – which includes his wife, Christine, and his four teenage children. 
     
    He considers working with middle-level students a “calling,” one he has been privileged to do for the past 30+ years.
