French 6

This course introduces students to the French language and cultures in which French is spoken. A communicative approach to language acquisition helps to foster basic proficiency in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. 

Checkpoint A Topics include: Identity, Family & Social Relationships, House & Home, School Life & Education, Physical Environment.    

5 Periods Per Week - Full Year  

FRENCH 7

Students will continue to develop and integrate the communicative skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Vocabulary study is enhanced as more advanced grammatical structures are added. Students work to develop a familiarity and understanding of the cultural environments where French is spoken and various aspects of everyday living. This course follows French 6, which students took in sixth grade.

Checkpoint A Topics include: Community & Neighborhood, Shopping, Leisure, Earning a Living.

5 Periods Per Week - Full Year

FRENCH 8

The successful completion of French 7 is a prerequisite for this course. By the end of this course, students are expected to demonstrate a measurable degree of communicative competency both in speaking and writing in French, as mandated by Checkpoint A, the curriculum guide designed by New York State. The course concludes with the students taking the Checkpoint A exam. The final average from this course will be included on the high school transcript and is
included in the total cumulative high school average. 1 Unit of High School Credit
