IMPROVISATION – Semester Course
Learn how to tune up your listening skills and create scenes FAST on your feet by exploring the art of improv on stage! Designed to enhance the actor’s range, imagination, spontaneity, physical choices and sensory awareness, students play honestly within a visceral environment and skillfully interact with the needs and responses of fellow players. Coursework introduces a series of physical and mental exercises as well as nonverbal and verbal problem-solving that specifically explores relationships. Actors are challenged to work in the present moment and find physical freedom and learn to integrate improvisation into their acting technique. 1/2 unit of credit. No prerequisite. Meets 1/2 unit of Art/Music/Drama requirement
INTRODUCTION TO PERFORMANCE – Semester Course
This class will introduce and illustrate the fundamentals of acting by actively participating in physical, vocal, and mental exercises. The course will provide a foundation of general acting vocabulary, basic techniques for physical and vocal expression and develop the actor’s imagination as it relates to storytelling and communication skills. At this level, the intent is to provide opportunities for the student to discover the transferable skills learned while acting. These skills can be applied to any vocation. The students will learn these skills by performing individually and in small groups in front of their peers. Some of these skills include trust, creativity, collaboration, observation, focus, listening, and responding. While an introductory course, all learners have the capability to become a confident actor through commitment, hard work, and being open to constructive criticism. 1/2 unit of credit. No prerequisite. Meets 1/2 unit of Art/Music/Drama requirement.
PUBLIC SPEAKING – Semester Course
Are you afraid and nervous in front of a group? Do college or job interviews give you nightmares? Do you want to go into a speaking profession like law and need to develop your poise and confidence? This course is recommended for every student in this school. Learn how to speak naturally in front of an audience and how to prepare for college interviews. This course will make public speaking fun. Video tape will be used for self evaluation. You will learn to support your ideas and opinions with research and evidence using the internet and conventional library resources.
1/2 unit of credit. No prerequisite. Meets 1/2 unit of Art/Music/Drama requirement.

STAGECRAFT – Semester Course
A course for students interested in the technological aspects of production, including basic lighting and sound design and implementation. This ―hands-on‖ course uses computers to do sound editing and lighting plot sequencing. Students will also have the opportunity to learn basic repair and installation of the equipment. Students are expected to contribute to school productions. The course will meet on a flexible schedule after school. 1/2 unit of credit No Prerequisite Meets requirement for 1⁄2 unit Practical Arts or Art/Music/Drama. This course meets the requirement for computer literacy.
ELECTRONIC MEDIA – Semester Course
This course deals with the various roles of the television broadcaster, such as news and weather reporting, and interviewing. Technical training in TV equipment is a significant part of the course. Video cameras and recorders will be used to tape and play back activities. Complete programs will be planned, rehearsed, and taped. For the serious student, arrangements can be made to work with TV 75 remote crew to tape sporting events, special functions and other programming. It is helpful to take Film and Video prior to taking this course, but it is not required. This class operates in conjunction with the public speaking class. 1/2 unit of credit. No Prerequisite. Meets requirement of 1/2 unit of Art/Music/Drama or Practical Arts, or the computer literacy requirement.
