Office of Transportation

Non-Public School Transportation Information

In accordance with New York State Education Law, students attending non-public schools may be eligible for district-provided transportation. To receive transportation services for the upcoming school year, a Non-Public School Transportation Request must be submitted to the District Transportation Office no later than April 1. This process must be completed each year, even if your child(ren) are attending the same school as last year.

For families moving into the District after the April 1 deadline, transportation requests must be submitted within 30 days of establishing residency.

If you complete the application process and your child’s school of enrollment changes you must complete a new Non-Public School Transportation Request. Again, it must be submitted no later than April 1. If the change occurs after April 1 the request will be denied. Families are afforded an opportunity to appeal the denial.

The following conditions must ALL be met as part of the decision-making process to grant an appeal.
(These same criteria apply to all requests received after April 1, except for new residents, who must comply
with the 30-day rule detailed above.)

  • Has a reasonable explanation been provided for the late request?
  • Is there an existing bus routed to this school serving the student’s neighborhood?
  • Is there sufficient seating on an existing bus to accommodate an additional student?
  • Can the transportation be provided at no additional cost to the District?

Transportation will be provided to the non-public school of choice, provided the school is within the statutory 15-mile limit and the student meets the following minimum distance eligibility requirements from their residence:

  • Grades K–5: 0.5 mile, or more.
  • Grades 6–8: 0.75 mile, or more.
  • Grades 9–12: 1.0 mile, or more.

PLEASE NOTE: Measured distance is the shortest distance between a student’s home and their school, which may differ from driving distance calculated by map software.

As per New York State Law, applications for transportation to a school greater than 15 miles from the student’s residence will be denied as per Education Law § 3635.

All students must be registered with the District in order to receive transportation services. Families who have not yet registered must complete the online registration process, available at:
