  • LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH

We offer a three year program in French, Hebrew, Latin, Mandarin, or Spanish. We emphasize the four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The children follow a course of study through text, workbooks, audio-visual, computer, and teacher generated materials.

In addition, the children prepare short and long term projects in written and oral form.
They also receive instruction in geography, history, culture and current events

The children are assessed on class work, preparation, participation, homework, tests,
quizzes, oral communication and projects. We offer a wide variety of opportunities for the children to demonstrate their skills in the target language.

    English as a New Language

The aim of our class is to help our new students fulfill the four basic New York State Standards of learning : reading, writing, listening, and speaking the English language. In addition, the children prepare short and long term projects in written and oral form. They also receive instruction in geography, history, culture and current events.

The children are assessed on class work, preparation, participation, homework, tests, quizzes, oral communication and projects. We offer a wide variety of opportunities for the children to demonstrate their skills in English. In May, all ENL students take a New York State ESL Achievement Test to determine whether they are ready to exit the class in the following September.
