Five Ensembles Perform in Regional Chamber Music Competition
14 high school musicians, 2 middle school musicians, and their teachers at the LI Young Musicians concert

Five chamber music ensembles from the Great Neck Public Schools were selected to perform in the ninth annual Long Island Regional Young Musicians Concert, sponsored by The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. This year’s concert took place on March 5 at Great Neck South High School.

Two ensembles from North High are: Taj Malhotra (piano), Lana Goldsmith (soprano), Nina Bikhman (mezzo soprano), Bo-Chou (Stanley) Tsai (tenor), and Harrison Albin (baritone) performing Six Quartets, Op. 112: I. Sehnsucht (Longing) by Johannes Brahms; and Ye-On Lee (clarinet), Elena Zhuang (flute), and Dale Yang (piano) performing Piano Trio in A minor for Flute, Clarinet, and Piano, Op. 6 by Camille Saint-Saëns-Tarantelle.

Two ensembles from South High are: Michael Sun (clarinet), Ashley Zheng (viola), and Daniel Liu (piano) performing 8 Pieces for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano, Op. 83 by Max Bruch; and Elaine Su (viola) and Kyle Lam (piano) performing Sonata for Viola and Piano by Rebecca Clarke.

Ensembles featured in the Long Island Regional Concert were selected from a competitive pool of applicants based on recordings submitted through their school music department. Participants are eligible for an opportunity to perform at Lincoln Center in the final Young Musicians Concert at Alice Tully Hall in May.

Music faculty who helped students prepare for their performances include Dr. Pamela Levy, fine and performing arts department chair/vocal teacher, Rosario Fuschetto, instrumental teacher, and Dr. Esther Noh, instrumental teacher at North High; Michael Schwartz, performing arts department chair/instrumental teacher, and Dr. Janine Robinson, vocal teacher at South High; and Alan Schwartz, music department chair/instrumental teacher at South Middle.
