On July 1, members of the Great Neck Public Schools Board of Education and central administration gathered to break ground for the district’s first synthetic turf field and site improvements at the North Middle School track on Arrandale Avenue. 

This capital project was overwhelmingly approved by voters in May 2025. The project will be funded entirely through the district’s capital reserve fund established in 2024; work will be completed at no additional cost to taxpayers and without any impact on the tax levy.

In addition to a synthetic playing field surface, the scope of the project includes: resurfacing the running track and installation of new areas for track and field events; installation of a new grandstand with press box; full renovation of public restrooms; construction of a storage building with an adjoining concession stand; addition of new pedestrian walkways for access from both sides of the venue; and installation of a dark-sky compliant playing field lighting system.

Immediately after receiving voter approval, the district’s business office and buildings and grounds department collaborated with BBS Architects to complete the extensive paperwork required by New York State Education Department, which takes months for review and approvals. Work is already underway and is expected to continue into the fall.
