Four Science Olympiad teams from the Great Neck Public Schools earned a total of 24 medals at the Western Long Island Regional Middle School Science Olympiad on March 7. A team from South Middle finished in second place overall and will advance to the New York State Science Olympiad tournament for the eighth consecutive year.

Great Neck was represented by one team from North Middle School and three teams from South Middle School. The competition included 23 challenges that showcased students’ curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills across a wide range of topics such as engineering, earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics. From building and testing devices to analyzing complex scientific problems, students worked together to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges. Medals were awarded to the top 10 teams in each challenge.

South Middle Team A came in second place overall and earned a spot in the New York State Science Olympiad competition in April. Team A earned a total of 15 event medals, including two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. Members of the South Middle Team A who will advance to the States are: Yizheng Chen, Damian Fung, William Huang, Stefanie Kim, Quentin Lennox, Anthony Li, Sophia Lin, Doris Lu, Suhaan Virani, Victoria Xu, Scofield Xue, Zale Zhang, Lucas Zhen, Richard Zheng, and Owen Zou.

Additionally, South Middle Team B earned medals in six events, South Middle Team C earned one medal, and the North Middle Team earned two medals.
