Musicians Selected for All-State Ensembles

Thirteen highly talented musicians from North High School and South High School have been selected for the prestigious and very competitive 2025 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Conference, to be held Dec. 4–7 in Rochester. In addition, eight students have been named as Alternates for the event.

North High All-State Musicians

North High School’s All-State musicians (with instrument/vocal part and ensemble) are: Alexander Baluyut (trombone, Symphony Orchestra), Lana Goldsmith (soprano I, Treble Chorus and jazz soprano, Vocal Jazz Ensemble), Lindsay Stoller (soprano II, Treble Chorus), Nina Bikhman (alto I, Mixed Chorus), Taj Malhotra (bass I, Mixed Chorus) and Ye-On Lee (clarinet, Symphonic Band). Alternates are: Harrison Albin (bass I), Abigail Bernstein (jazz trombone), Regina Cho (violin), Ethan Lam (violin), and Tomi Shamash (French horn).

North High musicians are taught by Dr. Pamela Levy, fine and performing arts department head/vocal music teacher; Dr. Esther Noh, instrumental music teacher; and Rosario Fuschetto, instrumental music teacher.
 

South High All-State Musicians

South High School’s All-State musicians are: Maisyn Cardinale (alto II, Mixed Chorus), David Kagan (bass II, Mixed Chorus), Cedric Lai (violin, String Orchestra), Jinxian Elaine Su (viola, String Orchestra), Shenglin Tang (violin, String Orchestra), Ashley Zheng (viola, Symphony Orchestra), and Sophia Wu (flute, Wind Ensemble). Alternates are: Avery Chen (violin), Joanna Huan (violin), and Kaitlin Qu (violin).

South High musicians are taught by Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head/instrumental music teacher; Mark Boschen, instrumental music teacher; and Dr. Janine Robinson, vocal music teacher.

At the All-State Conference, New York’s finest student musicians will perform together in various ensembles. Thousands of students auditioned for this competition last spring at solo and ensemble festivals throughout the State.
