North High Team Comes in Second Place at LI Physics Olympics

A team of five North High School students came in second place at the 2026 Long Island Physics Olympics, sponsored by the Long Island Physics Teachers’ Association (LIPTA). This year’s competition, held on March 19 at Farmingdale State College, featured 14 high school teams from Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The Physics Olympics is comprised of five events that challenge students’ knowledge and application of various physics principles. In addition to achieving second place overall, the North High team took first place in the “Going Ballistic” event and second place in the “Fermi Questions” challenge. 

Members of North High’s Physics Olympics team are Serena Chen, Daniel Davidson, Keshin Huang, Elaine Xing, and Nathan Zhong. The faculty advisor is science teacher Alan Schorn.
