2018 Accolades
GNPS/TV Wins National Awards
Great Neck Public Schools Television (GNPS/TV) is the proud recipient of four national awards through the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) 2018 Hometown Media Awards.
The Hometown Media Awards is a national awards program that recognizes outstanding community media and local cable programs that are distributed on Public, Educational, and Governmental access cable television channels. Nearly one thousand entries are submitted each year.
GNPS/TV was awarded the top prize in Overall Excellence in Educational Access, the second of four times it has done so (2016, 2020, 2024). Additionally, three individual productions by GNPS/TV received awards. South Middle School’s Thank A Veteran Program won Best Educational Activity and South High School Cultural Heritage Night won Best Local Performance.
“Just Film Things,” is a short film by South High students Miackie Domingo, Abby Lee, Ryan Chen, Jamie Brown, and Maya Porshian, who took GNPS/TV’s Advanced Filmmaking course. The film, exploring the challenges of a dysfunctional film group, won Best Original Drama/Comedy at the Hometown Media Awards and was selected for the 2018 Young Filmmakers Program at the Gold Coast International Film Festival.
