2023 Accolades

GNPS/TV Wins National & International Awards

Great Neck Public Schools Television (GNPS/TV) is the proud recipient of a national award through the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) 2023 Hometown Media Awards and two international awards through the 44th annual Telly Awards.

2023 Hometown Media Awards

The Hometown Media Awards is a national awards program that recognizes outstanding community media and local cable programs that are distributed on Public, Educational, and Governmental access cable television channels. Nearly one thousand entries are submitted each year.

GNPS/TV was awarded the top prize in the Best Entertainment and Arts Series category for Student Filmmaker Showcase, a program that highlights short films produced, edited, and directed by middle and high school students in the District. This broadcast features a variety of films and styles, including fictional films, public service announcements, and more.

44th Annual Telly Awards

The Telly Awards is an international program that honors excellence in video and television across a variety of platforms. GNPS/TV received two Silver Telly trophies in the Television-Student area of competition.

A Board of Education Appreciation video was produced by the GNPS/TV team in partnership with District middle schools in October 2022. This video, created in celebration of New York State School Board Recognition Week, highlighted middle school programs and the successful return to in-person learning following the pandemic.

William A. Shine was Superintendent of Great Neck Public Schools for 22 years and ushered the district into the 21st century. Great Neck South High School was ceremonially dedicated in his name in 2006, two years after his retirement. After his passing in January 2022, the District held a Memorial for Dr. Shine in his honor that June.
