South High Opera

South High Opera features the April 2019 performance of Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss. This program was recorded during the special “Founder’s Performance” of the opera, which celebrated 50 years of full-scale, student-performed operas at South High School. Die Fledermaus was under the musical direction of Dr. Janine Robinson, conducted by Michael Schwartz, and directed by Robert Stivanello.

Student Filmmakers Showcase

Student Filmmakers Showcase highlights short films produced, edited, and directed by middle and high school students. The Showcase offers a variety of films and styles. Many of the films originate from media classes around the district. The program is hosted by Robert Zahn, director of educational television and broadcast media.

School Bus Safety Press Conference

On Nov. 12, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer hosted a press conference at South Middle School to propose efforts to increase school bus safety. James Popkin, the district’s transportation supervisor, joined Senator Schumer, State Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso, and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran in speaking about the dangers presented by drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses.

South Middle Spring Concert

The South Middle Spring Concert 2019 features performances by the school’s instrumental and vocal ensembles, which were presented over two nights in May. Tune in to hear classical pieces, popular works, and selections from movies and musicals. Instrumental students perform under the direction of Department Head Alan Schwartz and Mark Boschen; choral students perform under the direction of Korey Coppola.

Adult Learning Center Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon 2019

The Great Neck Adult Learning Center celebrated Thanksgiving with their annual luncheon on November 20. This long-standing tradition provides an opportunity for ALC staff and students, district administrators, and Board of Education trustees to share a delicious meal and express their gratitude for the educational opportunities our school community has to offer.
