South Middle Spotlight - June 2019

South Middle Spotlight is a lively, magazine-format program that highlights recent events at South Middle School. This edition features Relay for Life Field Day, Page 2 of 2 Global Youth Service Day activities, Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser, Career Day, the recognition of South Middle students from the May Board of Education Meeting, and more. South Middle Spotlight airs at 10 a.m., 4:30 and 11 p.m  in the incorporated villages of Great Neck on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32.

North Middle Spotlight - June 2019

North Middle Spotlight showcases a variety of recent events at North Middle School. This edition includes the Dancing Classrooms culminating event, a montage of the two musical performances of Mary Poppins, the recognition of North Middle School students from the April Board of Education Meeting, and more. North Middle Spotlight airs 9:30 a.m., 4 and 10:30 p.m  in the incorporated villages of Great Neck on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32.

Student Filmmakers Showcase

Student Filmmakers Showcase highlights short films produced, edited, and directed by middle and high school students. The showcase offers a variety of films and styles. The program is hosted by Robert Zahn, director of educational television and broadcast media. Student Filmmakers Showcase airs at 6 a.m., 12:30 and 7 p.m in the incorporated villages of Great Neck on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32. 

South High 50 Years of Opera, Found​er Performance Ceremony

South High 50th Opera Gala Celebration features a ceremony that took place immediately before the Founder’s Performance of this year’s opera, Die Fledermaus, on April 13. This ceremony looks back on 50 years of outstanding opera performances at South High, including special presentations honoring the program’s founder, Diane Martindale. This show focuses on the 50th anniversary celebration; the opera performance itself will air on GNPS/TV in the coming months. South High 50th Opera Gala Celebration airs at 7 a.m., 1:30 and 8 p.m in the incorporated villages of Great Neck on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32.

Inside the GNPS/TV Vaults

Inside the GNPS Vaults looks back at videos and programs from the district archives spanning the past 50 years. Many of these television shows are being seen for the first time since they were broadcast. Over the last few years, original, fragile tapes from GNPS/TV have been digitally archived on computers. Footage from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s have been preserved and improved for rebroadcasting. This edition of Inside the GNPS Vaults features a 1975 year-in-review, a 1999 Saddle Rock School ground breaking ceremony, and a 2013 North High concert to benefit Long Beach Schools following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. Inside the GNPS Vaults airs at 12:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 6 p.m in the incorporated villages of Great Neck on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32. 

North Middle Spring Concert, 2019

North Middle Concert was filmed during the school’s seventh and eighth-grade Spring Concert on May 15. The theme of this year’s concert was “American Music and American Composers.” The program features performances by the Chorus under the direction of Arielle Murdocco, and Band and Orchestra under the direction of Matthew Trinkwald. North Middle Concert airs at 8 a.m., 2:30 and 9 p.m in the incorporated villages of Great Neck on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32. 

Recent GNPS/TV Programming

South High Spotlight - April 2019

South High Spotlight is a show that is filmed and edited entirely by South High students. This episode features highlights from the South High Winter Concert I, Theatre South’s production of “Almost, Maine,” Battle of the Bands, the Fashion Show, a behindthe-scenes look at the South High Opera, and more! South High Spotlight airs at 10:00 a.m., 2 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32.

North High Winter Concert, 2018

North High Winter Concert features performances by the North High School Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, A Cappella Choir, Symphonic Band, and Symphony Orchestra. The program concludes with a grand finale by the Concert Choir and Symphony Orchestra performing Carmen Act IV: March and Chorus “Les voici!” by Georges Bizet. The North High choirs are conducted by Dr. Pamela Levy, fine and performing arts department head/director of vocal music, and the band and orchestra are conducted by Joseph Rutkowski, director of instrumental music. North High Winter Concert airs at 8:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32. 

South Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration, 2019

This program features wonderful songs, dances, and more from the 15 th annual South Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration, which celebrates the cultural diversity of the school. Performances included: Chinese Yo-Yo, Korean percussion, K-Pop, a student performance about Italian culture and landmarks, and traditional dances from China, the Dominican Republic, Greece, and more. South Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration airs at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m., and 11 p.m on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32.

Focus on Education

Focus on Education is an ongoing series hosted by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Teresa Prendergast, highlighting what’s new and interesting in the district. This episode features an interview with two new elementary assistant principals: Michelle Bell from the John F. Kennedy School, and Sara Goldberg from Saddle Rock School. Focus on Education airs at 8 a.m., 12 p.m., 4 p.m., 8 p.m in the incorporated villages of Great Neck on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32.

District Spotlight - March 2019

District Spotlight is a program in a lively, magazine-format that highlights the wonderful events that take place throughout the Great Neck school community. This edition features activities from across the district, including: a very special art project at Saddle Rock School; a look behind the scenes at HTV and Blazers Live, the school morning news shows of South Middle School and North Middle School; highlights from the South High School musical, “A Little Night Music”; South Middle’s Dancing Classrooms culminating event; and more! District Spotlight airs at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 9 p.m in the incorporated villages of Great Neck on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32.

North Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration & Talent Show, 2019

The North Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration and Talent Show features wonderful songs, dances, and performances that celebrate the cultural diversity of the school. The program was filmed during the annual school-wide event on Jan 24, where North Middle faculty and families shared foods and activities from their heritage, followed by a variety of student performances.
