5th graders participated in their 11th annual month-long Read-A-Thon to support the Ronald McDonald house of Long Island. This year, students read nearly 100,000 pages and donated a total of $7,673.81. Click to view more photos.
4th graders wrote messages of love, encouragement, and hope to attach to blankets. These blankets will then be given to a community homeless shelter. This initiative was done in conjunction with Blankets of Hope, an organization that sets out to inspire a global movement of kindness, one blanket at a time.
Some fourth graders participated in an interactive virtual experience with 95-year-old Teddy B. Students asked about his childhood, his career in electrical engineering, and his favorite books, movies, etc. The children had a blast talking with him, and they plan to talk with him again soon to build a lasting relationship. This was initiated by the Saddle Rock Shared Decision Making Committee, whose 21-22 goal is to connect students with local senior citizens.
