The program is open to high school students entering their senior year who are nominated by their school science chairperson. Each science chairperson may nominate two students during their junior year.

Semi-finalists are interviewed by Laboratory scientists and winners go on to spend a minimum of 10 hours per week, September through March of their senior year, doing original research under the watchful eye of a scientist mentor.

At the conclusion of the program, students give oral presentations of their research projects to an enthusiastic audience of the students’ scientific mentors, Lab administrators, parents and teachers.

  • Farmingdale State College

Farmingdale State College helps bridge the gap between high school and college-level study through University in the High School (UHS). Academically-motivated high school juniors and seniors looking to get a head start by earning college credits can enroll in UHS.

UHS allows students to earn college credit, at reduced tuition, for a college-level course they take at their high school. These credits can be used to pursue a degree at Farmingdale or transferred to another institution. Participating in rigorous college-level work while in high school will undoubtedly contribute to your overall development and success, and may help you reach your academic goals.

  • HOSTRA STEM/STEAM Institute

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is evolving into STEAM (STEM + Art and Design) because today’s K-12 students need to be prepared for the future workforce and educators must find creative ways to integrate the 3Rs with the 4Cs (collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity). Arts education teaches young people many of the integral skills needed to thrive in the 21st century workplace. Hofstra Summer Camps and Saturday Classes for Young People are proud to support the STEM/STEAM movement and have created many fun and innovative new programs to help young people prepare for the future. Our STEM to STEAM logo will help you identify these programs in this brochure and on our website.
