In celebration of Veterans Day, the Aid to Our Troops club at North High School hosted a special event to recognize the service of two veterans within our community. On the school's front lawn, North High students and staff were joined by administrators, elected officials, and representatives from the Merchant Marine Academy and Alert Fire Department for a special ceremony to honor Great Neck residents Sgt. Nathaniel Gray Sr., USA (Ret.) and Spc. Nathaniel Gray II, USA (Ret.).

Sgt. Gray Sr. served our nation as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Spc. Gray II, who graduated from North High in 1998, served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Aid to Our Troops club officers presented both honorees with American flags flown over the Capitol Building in Washington, DC, as a symbol of their gratitude for their service to our country and our community. 

Following the ceremony, distinguished guests celebrated the unveiling of a new Military Veterans Display located next to the school library. The display case honors each branch of the military and features patches, medallions, and other items shared by active and retired servicemen and women through their interactions with the Aid to Our Troops club.

Under the guidance of faculty advisor Mr. Ceasar, the Aid to Our Troops Club raises awareness of the service and sacrifice of all members of the United States Armed Forces. The club supports active, reserve, and retired members and military organizations through fundraisers, drives, and events within the school community.
