North High Among "Best High Schools in U.S."

U.S. News and World Report released their annual ranking of “Best High Schools” on May 9. We are proud that North High School continues to be recognized for educational excellence.

On the list of best high schools in the nation, North High ranked #273. North High is a Gold Medal recipients—a designation awarded only to the top 500 schools in the entire country. To determine a school’s placement on this list, U.S. News evaluated more than 28,800 high schools nationwide based on programs offered for all students, graduation rates, test scores, and college preparation.

U.S. News further analyzed the top 500 schools in the nation to determine the best high schools for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). North High (#53) and South High (#64) are the only Long Island schools to place in the top 100 of the best STEM schools in America. This ranking is determined by student participation and performance on Advanced Placement science and math exams.

“It takes the support of an entire community to earn a national recognition like this,” explains Superintendent of Schools Dr. Teresa Prendergast. “These rankings are a testament to the commitment demonstrated by our Board of Education, our dedicated administrators and faculty, our hard-working students, their supportive families, and all Great Neck residents.”

This report also includes high schools rankings by state and North High (#34) ranks high among the best schools in New York.
