Boys and Girls Fencing Win Nassau County Championships

Winning a Nassau County Championship is no easy feat. It requires practice, skill, and a willingness to never quit. This winter season, for the first time ever in GNSHS history, we had boys and girls teams each win a County Championship in the same sport.

This winter season both the Boys and Girls Fencing Teams did the impossible. The boys and girls teams finished the regular season undefeated (13-0 & 14-0), became the Large School Division Champions, went on to become the Regular Season Champions, and finally earned the Nassau County Championship.

The boy's team was led by Senior Captain, and two-time All-Long Island selection, Kevin Feng and the Foil trio of Gabe Magidson, David Wang, and Kevin Zhang. The girl's team was led by their Captain Mary Ye, who is a two-time All-Long Island selection and the 2019 Nassau County Saber Individual Champion, and by Freshman Mandy Li, who also took a gold medal at the Nassau County Individual Championships and posted an amazing 34-0 record this season.  The boy's team is coached by Joshua Baravarian (GNSHS) and the girl's team by Nassau County 2019 Coach of the Year Catie Sagevick (GNSMS).
