South High Students Participate in TeenHacks LI: Long Island's Hackathon

This past Veteran’s Day Weekend, Austin George helped direct the largest high school Hackathon in the Northeast, where over 300 students came together for 24 hours to program projects that addressed real-world issues — from food inaccessibility to inequitable education. As Director of Programming, Austin coordinated with major tech companies like Microsoft to put together engaging and meaningful workshops for the attendees. He was joined by Rachel Woo, Campus Ambassador Head, who worked with high schoolers across the nation to spread awareness for this terrific event.

They were joined by Computer Science Teacher Mrs. Zinn and several GNS students for a weekend of exploration, innovation, and fun. Nicholas Tung, David Mo, David Wang, & John Anthony Ribando successfully took home 1st Place Overall with their winning project insite: a plug-in that educates consumers by identifying deceptive marketing tactics online. Several other students had tremendous success, with Eric Yachbe winning Best Hardware Hack and Joy Yang taking her team to People’s Choice Award.
