Six highly talented musicians from South High School have been selected for the prestigious and very competitive 2023 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Conference, to be held in Rochester from Nov. 30 through Dec. 4. In addition, 8 students have been named as Alternates for the event.

South High School’s All-State musicians are: Hugh Choi (flute II, Symphonic Band), Kelly Hon (soprano II, Mixed Chorus), Dylan Kim (violin I, Symphony Orchestra), Alston Leung (violin II, Symphony Orchestra), Victoria Lin (cello, Symphony Orchestra), and Nathan Park (tenor II, Mixed Chorus). Alternates are: Jacqueline Han (violin), Colin Hu (violin), Elizabeth Levine (violin), Shira Lichter (violin), Erin Wong (cello), Deirdre Chan (soprano I), Gloria Lee (flute), and Sarah Sun (alto saxophone).

South High musicians are taught by Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head/instrumental music teacher; Mark Boschen, instrumental music teacher; and Dr. Janine Robinson, vocal music teacher.

At the All-State Conference, sponsored by NYSSMA, the State’s finest student musicians will perform together in various ensembles. Thousands of students auditioned for this competition last spring at solo and ensemble festivals throughout the State.
