Grounds For Sculpture - Tuesday, June 4

Is it real, or is it a sculpture? That is exactly the feeling visitors
experience as they explore the 42 – meticulously landscaped
acres that house over 270 sculptures, some life-like, others
towering, and fantastical, at the Grounds for Sculpture in
Hamilton, New Jersey.
Grounds for Sculpture is a magical place where art and nature are
always at play. The park opened in 1992 on the site of the former
NJ State Fairgrounds. At its core are sculptures by renowned and
emerging contemporary artists, each thoughtfully positioned on
beautifully landscaped parkland full of thousands of exotic trees
and flowers and a roving muster of peacocks. It is a feast for the
senses.
The works, many of them monumental, include those of such
distinguished artists as Clement Meadmore, Anthony Caro,
Beverly Pepper, Kiki Smith, George Segal and Isaac Witkin. They
join the enchanting works of the visionary founder Seward
Johnson. Discover the beauty, charm, whimsy and inspiration
that this property holds.
Upon arriving, we will have a private docent highlight tour.
A delicious, three-course lunch will be served at "Rat's"
restaurant located on the grounds. The restaurant was
conceptually designed by Johnson, with an impressionist Claude
Monet-styled atmosphere. The restaurant's scenery features
Johnson's own impressionist-inspired sculptures as well as a lily
pond and bridge. It is named after the character "Ratty" from
Kenneth Grahame's "The Wind in the Willows." Lunch includes:
Salad, Entree: Choice of Lancaster Chicken or Loch Duart Salmon
Fillet with seasonal accompaniments. Dessert is Chocolate Cake.
Tea, coffee. Please indicate choice of entree when registering.
There will be time to tour the grounds on your own after lunch.
This tour is predominately walking; you must be able to walk
unassisted. Rain or shine.
