Tina follows Tina Turner from her humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global
queen of rock 'n' roll. Born Anna Mae Bullock in 1939, Turner rose to fame in the 1960s alongside her husband Ike.
She later revealed in her autobiography that she had suffered domestic abuse at his hands—
they separated in 1976 and divorced two years later. Turner later made a massive comeback in the 1980s.
The Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll has sold 180 million records worldwide and been honored with 11 Grammy Awards. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and featuring a book by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, the musical explores the life and legacy of the music artist, from humble beginnings in Tennessee to becoming a global phenomenon—all set to Turner's decades of hits. Reprising her critically acclaimed and Olivier-nominated performance in the titular role from the West End production is Adrienne Warren, who previously earned a Tony Award nomination on this side of the pond for her turn in Shuffle Along opposite Audra McDonald in 2016. Adrienne's interpretation of Tina has solidified her status as a bona fide shooting star of the stage and with the blessing of Tina Turner herself, who has also worked closely with Hall and Lloyd since the show's conception. Tina became a critical success and box office smash when it officially opened its world premiere production at London's Aldwych Theatre on April 17, 2018, following previews from March 21. Ever since then, devoted fans and theatergoers alike have travelled from all over the world to see Tina's story being told on the West End stage and to relive all her iconic hits from her early days with the Ike & Tina Turner Revue to her solo career as a global superstar. Featuring perhaps some of the greatest pop and rock 'n' roll songs ever written, from "River Deep Mountain High" and "Proud Mary" to "Private Dancer" and "What's Love Got to Do With It?," it could be argued that Tina is simply "The Best" jukebox musical Broadway has to offer! Join Community Education leader Estelle Berg as she leads another wonderful theater trip complete with a sit-down lunch at Bond 45 restaurant, which includes starter, choice of entrée, dessert, and coffee and tea.
