The Great Neck Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting at the Phipps Administration Building on July 6. John O’Keefe, the district’s new assistant superintendent for business following the retirement of John Powell, served as interim district clerk and administered the oath of office for individuals who will serve in various roles for the 2022-23 school year.
Trustee Donna Peirez, who was re-elected by the community in May, was sworn in for her third consecutive term on the Board. The Board of Education trustees then voted unanimously to appoint Rebecca Sassouni and Jeffrey Shi to serve as board officers for this school year. This will be Ms. Sassouni’s second year as president and Mr. Shi’s first year as vice president of the Board.
Additionally, Dr. Teresa Prendergast took the oath of office to continue her duties as superintendent of schools, and Stacey Pedone was reappointed as district treasurer. The Board approved the remainder of the organizational agenda, which included the appointment of the assistant district clerk, deputy district treasurers, and professional service providers for the new school year.
