GNPS Musicians Selected for All-State Ensembles
Seven highly talented musicians from North High School and South High School have been selected for the prestigious and very competitive 2023 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Conference, to be held in Rochester from Nov. 30 through Dec. 4. In addition, 14 students have been named as Alternates for the event.
North High All-State Musicians
North High School’s All-State musician is Samuel Friedmann (bass, Mixed Chorus). Alternates are: Ryan Cho (Bb clarinet), Owen Flood (tenor II), Man Chun Han (violin), Zachary Hyman (bass II), Ian Loo, (violin), and Mizuki Natsu (cello).
North High musicians are taught by Dr. Pamela Levy, fine and performing arts department head/vocal music teacher; Dr. Esther Noh, instrumental music teacher; and Jacquelyn Tomlet, instrumental music teacher.
South High All-State Musicians
South High School’s All-State musicians are: Hugh Choi (flute II, Symphonic Band), Kelly Hon (soprano II, Mixed Chorus), Dylan Kim (violin I, Symphony Orchestra), Alston Leung (violin II, Symphony Orchestra), Victoria Lin (cello, Symphony Orchestra), and Nathan Park (tenor II, Mixed Chorus). Alternates are: Jacqueline Han (violin), Colin Hu (violin), Elizabeth Levine (violin), Shira Lichter (violin), Erin Wong (cello), Deirdre Chan (soprano I), Gloria Lee (flute), and Sarah Sun (alto saxophone).
South High musicians are taught by Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head/instrumental music teacher; Mark Boschen, instrumental music teacher; and Dr. Janine Robinson, vocal music teacher.
At the All-State Conference, sponsored by NYSSMA, the State’s finest student musicians will perform together in various ensembles. Thousands of students auditioned for this competition last spring at solo and ensemble festivals throughout the State.
