North High Musician Selected for All-National Honor Band
North High musician Omeed Tartak has been selected play the euphonium in the 2018 All-National Honor Concert Band. The All-National Honor Ensembles performance, sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), will be held in Orlando, Florida in November.
At North High, Omeed is a member of the Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Pit Orchestra, and Chamber Music Society. Over the summer months, he shared his skills as a music instructor for middle school students at the GNPS Summer Enrichment Program; as a member of the Rotary Club of Great Neck community band; and as a member of the pit band for the Levels Teen Center at the Great Neck Library.
In the past, Omeed has performed with the NYSSMA All-State Wind Ensemble and the All-County Band.
The All-National Honor Ensembles (ANHE) consist of a jazz ensemble, mixed choir, guitar ensemble, symphony orchestra, and concert band. Participants are selected though an audition process; eligible students have qualified for their state-level honor ensemble program and competed against top students for a spot in these national honor ensembles.
“This marvelous accomplishment is a result of Omeed’s innate talent and how dedicated he is to studying and practicing his instrument,” says Joseph Rutkowski, instrumental music teacher at North High. “What impresses me most is how devoted he is to his fellow peers and his passion for raising the standard and level of musicianship of all our students.”
As a member of the 2018 All-National Honor Concert Band, Omeed will perform with 120 instrumentalists representing 41 states under the direction of prominent conductor Dennis Glocke.
NAfME is among the world’s largest arts education organizations and addresses all aspects of music education. NAfME advocates at the local, state, and national levels; provides resources for teachers, parents, and administrators; hosts professional development events; and offers a variety of opportunities for students and teachers.
