Twenty Great Neck Public School high school students were selected for the 2018–19 Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA) orchestras, Secondary Division. This division encompasses students in two groupings: grades 9–10 and grades 11–12. The LISFA musical experience brings together Long Island’s highly talented, young string musicians.
The LISFA Secondary Grades 9–10 participants from North High School are violinists David Cheung, Nina Phillips, and David Zeng; and violist Elizabeth Margiloff.
The LISFA Secondary Grades 9–10 participants from South High School are cellist Shalin Madan; violinists Eden Katz, Johann Lee, Mia Wang, and Jansen Wong; and violist Dana Siong Sin.
The LISFA Secondary Grades 11–12 participant from North High School is violinist Daniel Zeng.
The LISFA Secondary Grades 11–12 participants from South High are cellists Alex Choung and Nicholas Langel; violinists Deep Datta, Jaehyun Kim, Veronica Khim, Oliver Lee, Chloe Metz, and Ann Zhang; and violist Rachel Sakol.
Students were selected for LISFA based on their level and score at the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Festival held last year. They must also participate in their school orchestra. These students help to inspire all students in the district’s instrumental music program.
LISFA participants are taught by Joseph Rutkowski at North High and by Michael Schwartz at South High.
