Class of 2020 - Valedictorians & Salutatorians
An overview of the Great Neck Public Schools Class of 2020 reveals 586 graduates from the district’s three high schools: 264 from John L. Miller–Great Neck North High School, 312 from William A. Shine–Great Neck South High School, and 10 from The Village School.
A look at the valedictorians and salutatorians for North High and South High schools follows.
Valedictorians
The North High School Valedictorian is Raymond Lin. The South High School Valedictorian is Austin George.
North High Valedictorian Raymond Lin is a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship recipient through the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Raymond served as Editor-in-Chief of North High’s student newspaper, Guidepost. He was captain of the Science Olympiad team, secretary of the Bioethics Club, and a member of the Great Neck Breast Cancer Coalition. He was a varsity athlete as a member of the boys badminton team.
Raymond will attend Harvard University.
South High Valedictorian Austin George is a National Merit Scholar Finalist, and a National Spanish Examination Gold and Silver Medalist.
Austin served as captain of the Debate team and was named a five-time Long Island Forensics Association Finalist. He founded an affiliated Hack Club chapter at South High and served as club president. As a member of DECA, Austin earned first-place awards at New York State and Regional DECA Career Conferences. He was a varsity athlete who participated in cross country, winter track, and spring track.
Austin will attend University of California, Berkeley.
Salutatorians
The North High School Salutatorian is Judah Nouriyelian. The South High School Salutatorian is Tessie Dong.
North High Salutatorian Judah Nouriyelian is a Commended Student through the National Merit Scholarship Program and a National AP Scholar.
Judah served as captain of the Math team, captain of the varsity Quiz Bowl team, and vice president of Model Congress. A multi-sport varsity athlete, he was captain of the wrestling team and a member of track and field.
Judah will attend University of Pennsylvania.
South High Salutatorian Tessie Dong is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a National Spanish Examination Gold Medalist.
Tessie served as president of the Math team and treasurer of the Asian Culture Club. She was a member of the Korean Techno Dance team, the Science Olympiad team, and Technovation Club. She was also a varsity athlete on the girls badminton team.
Tessie will attend University of Chicago.
