North High Tri-M Chapter Welcomes New Members

On April 14, North High School Chapter 2605 of the Tri-M Music Honor Society hosted an induction ceremony to recognize 25 students who demonstrate scholarship, musicianship, and leadership. Building administrators, music faculty, students, and parents gathered via Zoom to honor inductees for both spring 2020 and 2021, and install new officers for the 2021–22 school year.

Tri-M inductees commended during the ceremony are: Stephany Barbu, Jack Brenner, Stanley Chan, Clara Goldman, Leila Hawa, Kevin Khadavi, Jonathan Kim, Hwi-on Lee, Linda Li, Elizabeth Margiloff, Tyler Menker, Jonathan Moalemi, William Okin, Joshua Rafaeil, Kajal Ramphul, Shuyuan (Julie) Sun, Sahar Tartak, Christine Tiong, Tiantian (Emily) Wei, Maverick Williams, Tricia Wu, Trinity Wu, Christopher Yang, David Zeng, and Alex Zhuang.

Student officers of Chapter 2605 also extended Honorary Lifetime Memberships to three individuals for their support and outstanding contributions to the school’s music programs: retired North High teacher Susan Babkes, and retired North High assistant principals Patricia Hugo and Dr. Daniel Krauz.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society, a program of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), recognizes students for their efforts and accomplishments in music on the basis of musicianship, scholarship, character, leadership, and service to their school and community. The organization’s high standards serve to challenge students to greater efforts and achievements and to encourage the pursuit of excellence.

North High School Chapter 2605, led by faculty advisor/North High instrumental music teacher Joseph Rutkowski, and North Middle Junior Chapter 5695, led by faculty advisor/North Middle music department chair Matthew Trinkwald, encourage participation in music programs and service to the Great Neck community through a variety of endeavors, including performances at local nursing homes, children’s hospitals, and seasonal events. Chapter 2605 at North High boasts more than 25 years of outstanding service, including recognition as the NAfME Chapter of the Year for the 2017–18 school year.

Music faculty at North High School include Dr. Pamela Levy, fine and performing arts department chair/vocal music teacher, and Joseph Rutkowski, instrumental music teacher.
