Artfest at North High
The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at North High School is proud to present Artfest, a week-long celebration of the school’s Art, Music, and Drama programs. Performances will take place over four days and three evenings from May 20–23. All events take place at the school, 35 Polo Rd. Event descriptions, dates, and times follow. All events are free and the public is warmly welcomed to attend.
The Concerto Concert begins at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 20. The Chamber Symphony will perform works by Bach, R. Strauss, Quantz, Mozart, Vivaldi, Hummel, Rimsky-Korsakov, and others. Students will be under the direction of Joseph Rutkowski, instrumental music teacher.
The Drama Presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22. It will take place in the Commons, which is located on the lower level. Performances will include students from the acting classes who will present short scenes, followed by a performance of the Improv troupe, “Thin Ice,” who will provide entertainment based on shows such as “Whose Line is it Anyway.” Students will be under the direction of Ilana Meredith Schikler, Drama teacher and Advisor of Junior Players.
The Artfest Exhibition opening night reception will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, just prior to the Artfest Concert. The exhibition will also be open during school hours (8 a.m.–2 p.m.) from May 20–23. The Exhibition is the culminating display of student work from all Fine Art classes, including: Advanced Placement and Advanced Art, Architecture, Digital Design, Digital Photography, Fashion, Sculpture and Ceramics, and Studio Art. The artwork on display reflects the students’ talent and commitment, as well as their joy in expressing themselves. Art teachers are: Joseph Giacalone (lead teacher), Christine Hakanjin, Linda Haase, and Emily Man.
The Artfest Concert begins at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. The concert will feature performances by the Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, A Cappella Troupe, Symphonic Band, and Symphony Orchestra. The program will conclude with a combined performance by the Concert Choir and the Symphony Orchestra.
Vocal students will be under the direction of Dr. Pamela Levy, and instrumental students will be under the direction of Mr. Rutkowski.
