On June 14, North High School held their first annual Great Friends Games to celebrate the accomplishments of students in the North High ACE Program classes.
Activities during the Games focused on skills developed in adaptive physical education classes throughout the school year: step ladder step over, yoga, basketball, bowling, beanbag toss, tennis ball rally, water sponge bucket relay, and a field walk-around. Participants included teachers, support staff, and students in the North High ACE Program classes.
The Great Friends Games event was organized by North High transition program teaching assistants Joshua Hakimian and Cindy Zubli, with assistance from coaches Eamonn Flood and Justin Cisario. Art teacher Samantha Barratt designed a special logo for the event.
All participants received Great Friends Games t-shirts, which were purchased with funds raised through bake sales.
According to Ms. Zubli, the program offered several benefits for students, including strength, coordination, focus, and socialization. Based on the success of this inaugural event, plans are already underway for the second annual Great Friends Games!
