Little Words of Empowerment Project

A female North Middle student holds up completed face mask chains as part of a community service project

Eighth-grade students in Arielle Panzarino’s Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) classes at North Middle School are participating in a community service project focusing on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on both students and essential workers in our area and around the country.

Students reflected on the social, emotional, and personal effects of the virus and brainstormed ways to help the community in times of need. As a result of their discussions, FACS classes are creating personalized face mask chains featuring words of empowerment that will be donated to Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital as a way to remind hardworking nurses and doctors to stay safe and positive during times of uncertainty.
