On Nov. 6, student and staff representatives from North High School participated in the Long Island Regional Virtual Student Forum. This forum brought together educators and students from across the region via Zoom to discuss their thoughts on the pandemic, hybrid and remote learning, and issues related to social justice.
Keynote speakers Roger Tilles, member of the New York Board of Regents, and Dr. Betty Rosa, Interim Commissioner of Education, spoke about the value of student voice on these important topics. Using breakout rooms on Zoom, participants engaged in discussions and formulated suggestions for the Board of Regents to consider.
Participants from North High were: students Chelsea Cohen, Aliza Fine, Ellie Lampione, and Brenner Yellis; teachers Samantha Gallagher, Pamela Ostrover, Jennifer Sixsmith, and Laura Talamo; Dean of Students Cathlene Behar; and Principal Dr. Dan Holtzman.
The Long Island Regional Virtual Student Forum was organized by Nassau BOCES, Eastern Suffolk BOCES, and Western Suffolk BOCES.
