GNPS/TV Sweeps in National and Local Awards!

GNPS TV recently received some wonderful recognition!


Youth Safety Public Service Announcement Video Contest: Film students swept most of the awards in the competition sponsored by the Nassau District Attorney's office. ​Out of 4 categories (and 60 entrees sent overall), GNPS/TV won 1st place and 3rd place in the Mental Health topic, 1st and 2nd place in School Gun Safety, and 1st and 3rd place in the Violence Against Women topic. There was a recognition ceremony and presentation on Tuesday June 4 at the Morrelly Homeland Security Center in Bethpage.

GNPS/TV also won national awards from:

Hometown Media Awards: Coming off winning last year's best education channel, GNPS/TV students for the 5th year in a row took top national media awards for best broadcast of a performance or concert for "South High Winter Concert 2" and also for best video: educational activity (Dancing Classrooms). These awards not only recognize educational programs across the country, but also combine Public Access TV and government channels as well, making the competition extremely challenging.

The Telly Awards is a major industry standard award that goes to the finest film and video productions, groundbreaking web commercials, videos and films, and outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs from around the world. The Telly Awards recognize winners with Silver and Bronze awards.​ Over 12,000 entries from around the world were entered! So guess what? GNPS TV won, not one, but two awards, including:

General: Local TV  for our broadcast of  "South High Cultural Heritage Night, 2018", GNPS TV Students

There is only one other winner nationwide in this category, and only 6 winners in the overall television category- none are secondary schools!

Directing Craft (nation wide) for a film made with fellow Great Neck South Middle School staff members and students, "Birdwatching". 16 other winners in the category include HBO, PBS, and Paramount Viacom.
